AIRCRAFT AVAILABILITY VERY LIMITED
Commercial flight operators are cancelling large swathes of their summer programs, due to low staffing levels post layoffs during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Images of airport terminals in chaos are filling the newspaper front pages, and travelers’ stomachs with dread.
Fortunately, the private aviation sector has bounced back from the effects of the pandemic much more quickly. Many travelers are turning to private charter for the first time to fill the gaps in airline schedules. Also, the advantage of avoiding multiple touch-points found in commercial air travel is proving very appealing to customers.
The extraordinary levels of demand which began in 2020 have continued into 2022, and this is now resulting in very limited aircraft availability at peak times. Pricing in the on-demand market is very volatile, reflecting the fluctuating supply.
With the summer travel peak of July and August approaching in addition to limited aircraft availability, competition for runway slots and aircraft parking will be high at peak times, especially at smaller airports and the most popular holiday destinations, such as Mykonos and Ibiza.
